Student Charter
1. YOUR ENTITLEMENT
We believe in putting you, the student, first in everything
we do. We aim to provide education of the highest quality in
a caring, Christian environment.
Equal Opportunities

Teaching and Learning
You are entitled to:
• Clear information about the courses you wish to study and
their assessment requirements.
• A high quality learning experience, drawing on the skills
and expertise of well-qualified staff.
• Opportunities for assessment and development of Key Skills
in Communication, Application of Number and IT.
• Access learning support services and resources to enhance
your studies.
• Formal and informal guidance on your progress, with
regular setting of work, regular assessment and prompt
return of work submitted.
• Access to a range of information technology facilities.
• Access to a range of appropriate additional support for
people with specific learning difficulties/disabilities.
• Access to additional help to assist you in your academic
studies.
• Access to sport and recreational opportunities.
Guidance and Support
You are entitled to:
• Confidentiality on personal matters, in accordance with
requirements.
• Initial assessment and guidance which helps ensure you are
placed on courses most suited to your prior experience and
learning and to your future aims.
• The support of a Personal Tutor.
• Regular review of your overall progress (through the
reporting process), so that targets for achievement and for
the future can be set.
• Access to information about financial support including
EMA, student support funds and childcare support.
• Access to counselling services, which are entirely
confidential.
• Access to the services offered by the chaplaincy team.
• Careers and Higher Education guidance and help with
applications and preparation for interview.
• Guidance on progressing from the College and a reference,
if requested.
• Access to work experience and community work placements.
Environment/Health & Safety
You are entitled to:
• A safe, pleasant and appropriate learning environment.
• Access to College amenities, facilities, teaching rooms
and learning resources.
• Access to a range of specialist facilities which we are
able offer to people who have physical disabilities.
• A no-smoking environment.
• Appropriate Health and Safety information in accordance
with current legislation.
If you have a serious concern about the delivery of your
entitlement, you may wish to follow the complaints
procedure, copies of which are available from the College
office or on the College intranet.
2. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
In return, you - as a student - have responsibilities and
obligations towards fellow students and members of staff.
Equal Opportunities
For all members of the College to enjoy equal opportunities,
it is essential that all members of the College,
individually, seek to promote equal opportunities.
This means you have a responsibility to:
• treat others on their own merits and respect their right to
learn.
• respect and value the differences between individual members
of our community.
• avoid discriminating against others in ways which may cause
offence.
Learning Agreement
You have a responsibility to:
• Attend every session which results from your Learning
Agreement, ie 100% attendance is the normal expectation for
all courses.
• Notify your Personal Tutor and teachers in advance where
absence is unavoidable.
• Telephone the College if you are ill and cannot attend.
• Be punctual to every class and bring everything you need.
• Apply yourself with total commitment to all of your
courses.
• Submit all set work on time, meet coursework deadlines
and, if absolutely necessary, negotiate an extended deadline
in advance of that deadline.
• Avoid any form of plagiarism in coursework or exams.
• Be sensitive to the needs of others especially in class,
the LRC and at exam times.
• Attend learning support sessions if it becomes evident
that these should form an integral part of your programme of
study.
• Abide by College examination procedures, including
behaviour in examinations and payment of fees where
chargeable.
Personal Conduct
You have a responsibility to:
• Show consideration and courtesy to all other members of
the College and to visitors.
• Avoid behaviour, dress, actions or language which may
cause offence.
• Avoid actions which may cause harm to others including any
form of personal abuse.
• Avoid excessive displays of intimacy and affection in
public places.
• Recognise that members of staff are ultimately in
positions of authority to which you must defer.
• Avoid behaviour or condoning behaviour which could lead to
criminal prosecution (including use of illegal substances or
alcohol on site).
Environment/Health & Safety
You have a responsibility to:
• Treat all aspects of the College site and environment with
care and respect, avoiding damage or abuse.
• Follow health & safety regulations strictly.
• Follow emergency evacuation procedures and treat all
health and safety devices such as fire alarms, fire exits,
etc. appropriately.
• Report any health and safety hazard to reception or a
member of staff immediately.
• Refrain from smoking on site (except in designated areas).
• Drive safely, with due care and attention, within site
speed limits and with consideration for others: park only in
designated parking areas.
• Dispose of litter in the bins provided.
• Avoid damage to other people's property.
• Observe the LRC Code of Conduct.
• Ensure noise levels, particularly in the LRC and near
examinations, do not disturb others.
• Recognise that the dining area is for all students and
that excessive noise or behaviour, sitting or standing on
tables and discarding litter, plates, cups, etc. are not
acceptable.
• Follow College procedures with regard to computers and the
network.
Any serious breach of your obligations under the Student
Charter will lead to disciplinary action. The College
reserves the right to contact parents/guardians of 16-18
year-old students.
