PAX CHRISTI PEACE CHALLENGE 2009
Congratulations to our student Peace Team who have just been
announced as the overall national winners of the Pax Christi
Peace Challenge 2009, a competition that spans the Catholic
educational community of the whole of Europe. The team have now
been invited to Peace House in Italy to meet the other national
winners from across the continent.
As part of their project, the team submitted a DVD demonstrating
the impact of violence and conflict on young people from across
the world, and who are now part of the St Mary’s community.
The Peace Team are committed to continuing their work and have
organised a ‘Peace Day’ for 16 March 2009. Speakers will include a
Holocaust Survivor and members of other faith communities in
order to spread a universal message of peace. Our ESOL students
are working on presentations about their own experiences of
unrest, conflict and trauma to explain to the entire College
community the strength of their feelings and their reasons for
being here in Middlesbrough.
The students have responded magnificently to this project and we
are very proud of the hard work and commitment that they have
shown since day one. It is wonderful to see such dedication
recognised with such a prestigious award.
