CAFOD AND FAIR TRADE WEEK
St. Mary’s College held a CAFOD and Fairtrade Week at the end of
September as the first project of the Chaplaincy Team’s new
“Faith in Action” initiative. Two assemblies were held to
highlight CAFOD’s work in the developing world and the causes of
global poverty. A poster campaign was also undertaken around
College to promote awareness of the range of Fairtrade products
available. Staff and students’ generosity was seen not only in
the £126 raised from the Fairtrade stall at the end of the week
but also from early collections from the CAFOD boxes which are
now available in all the classrooms for people to put their
loose change in.
Such was the success of the week that the Chaplaincy Team has
decided to launch a bid to win “Fairtrade College” status. This
will involve continued provision of Fairtrade goods and
promotion of the brand.
